.SHORT TERM...
(This afternoon through Thursday)
Issued at 225 PM EDT Wed Aug 19 2026

Benign weather continues in the early short term as drier air
works into the area, with afternoon Dewpoints today residing in
the mid to upper 60s across the CWA. Even with afternoon high
temperatures climbing into the mid to upper 90s, Dewpoint
depressions in the 25-30 degree range will provide a noticeable
departure from the uncomfortable, sweltering heat we have
experienced. As far as precipitation is concerned, other than some
scattered fair-weather cumulus, rain or storm chances are very
low today. Temperatures will drop tonight into the lower to
mid-70s, with mostly clear conditions to start Thursday.

Thursday begins with the CWA residing on the eastern flank of the
upper-level ridge stationed over the Four Corners Region, along
with a broad troughing pattern diving toward our area from the
Midwest. This setup supports northwest flow and will likely spin
off a couple of rounds of shortwave disturbances beginning
Thursday afternoon. We will need to monitor for any propagating
quasi-linear MCS or generally enhanced convection over the
northern and western counties by the afternoon. In line with this,
SPC has issued a Marginal Risk of severe weather and ML products
are highlighting this potential as well. Storms that do form could
produce wet microbursts with strong winds, hail and heavy
rainfall. Heat concerns will also return Thursday afternoon, with
heat index values rising into the triple digits. A Heat Advisory
may be needed in some portions of central Georgia.

&&

.LONG TERM...
(Friday morning through next Tuesday)
Issued at 225 PM EDT Wed Aug 19 2026

Highs will remain in the 90s through the long term. The big
concern with be the heat index values which will remain in the
triple digits into the weekend. Luckily, a front is set to take
aim at the area towards the end of the week. While temperatures
will remain in the 90s, the front will help ease Heat Index values
out of the triple digits.

The chance for thunderstorms will continue on Friday, especially
across northern Georgia where there appears to be at least some
chance of strong to severe weather associated with the northwest
flow pattern that is expected to setup. The threat here will be
mainly wind though some localized flash flooding is possible.

After the front clears on Saturday, chances of afternoon storms drops
for the remainder of the weekend. Word of warning here, we remain in
a NW flow pattern through the start of next week. As a result, there
is the possibility that an MCS makes it`s way out of the Great Lakes
region, impacting some portions of the SE during that time. As we
move into next week, we return to a more stagnant pattern with Heat
Index values rising back towards heat advisory criteria.

.AVIATION...
(18Z TAFS)
Issued at 201 PM EDT Wed Aug 19 2026

VFR through the 18Z TAF period for most of the area. Afternoon
cu around 5-6kft with near zero chances for SHRA/TSRA. NW winds at
7-12 kts will become 5kts or less overnight, and return to around
6-10kts out of the NNW Thursday afternoon. After mostly SKC
overnight, cu around 4-5kft returns Thursday afternoon, with
PROB30s for TSRA after 18Z.
